Breast Cancer Awareness Softball Tournament

The 6th Annual breast Cancer Awareness Softball Tournament at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ was another huge success this year. 63 teams competed to be the best of the breast in 7 divisions of play over the course of 2 days. The event raised $23,000 for 2 wonderful organizations, Wrap Around Sports and Breast Friends Forever. Both of these organizations can be found on the web at www.wraparoundsports. org and www.breastfriendsforever.org. these organizations help individuals and their families with immediate relief from everyday expenses , such as utility bills, clothing, food, cable television service, medical transportation, medical bills, and that is just a small bit of what they do. If you would like to help either of these organizations, please visit their websites and donate.

The competition this year was fierce as the top women’s teams threw down for a great cause, Team Crush from Limerick, PA took the championship in the Elite Division, while The Slammers from Lake Hiawatha, NJ placed second. In the Women’s Recreation Division, Save 2nd Base from Hamilton, NJ, proved to be the best against Team Hope from Audobon, PA. In the center of all that action were the women’s Silver Division where Team Chaos from Linden, NJ beat The Good Guys from Corbin City, NJ in a very tight championship game.

The men were there as well, playing for their shot at feeling good about playing for a cure. In the Mens E we had a thrilling end to a close game with Post 313 from Levittown, PA edging past Kelly’s Korner Bar & Grill from Somerset, NJ for the championship in their divi¬sion. Ninuzzo Trattoria Softball who overtook AL Construction to become best of the breast in this division won the men’s D.

This year we introduced a Coed Division with a very positive response for the first year as 12 teams came out to see who would walk away with the trophy. In the Competitive Division AL Company/Kings over Queens from Dover, NJ dominated all of the teams and ultimately beat Team Hope from Audobon, PA for the win and title!! The Recreation Division of the coed event brought forth some great competition with Scozzari Builders from Ewing, NJ taking the lead to win this division over Help Me Ride from Manalapan.

“As state director of USSSA NJ I am proud to be part of this event year after year. It is a lot of work but one of the more rewarding weekends for us here in NJ. It has grown to be one of the marquee events for the state. One of my favorite parts of the tournament from year to year is the fun and catchy names the teams come up with”, said Kirk Tarabokia
Once again, it is our pleasure to thank USSSA State Director Kirk Tarabokia for all of the time he and his family sacri¬fice each year to see that the event is successful. Special thank you to all of the umpires that come out and volunteer. Erika Rech and Mike Ruane from Breast Friends Forever for all of the wonderful work that you do.

Moving forward, the event needs spon¬sors and vendors, if you or a company you know of might be interested in participating, please contact us through our website, www.wraparoundsports. org or email janeen@wraparoundsports. org
