The 14-and-under Royse City Bulldogs baseball team advanced all the way to the finals in the USSSA World Series, but lost the final game by a one-run margin.
The USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association) World Series was played June 18-20 in Cedar Hill.
In pool play the Bulldogs defeated the Irving Rays, 8-4, Forney Raiders, 11-4, and the Rockwall Hawks, 11-10.
The Royse City team started bracket play against the Desoto Heat and won 9-8. The Bulldogs then lost to the Irving Outlaws by a 10-5 margin. In their next game, they advanced to the finals with another victory over the Desoto Heat, this time by a 7-2 score.
In the championship game, Royse City again played the Irving Outlaws. This time, the Irving team managed to score a 5-4 victory.
The Bulldogs finished their final year of youth baseball with a 21-3-1 record. They won the spring league in Royse City with a record of 11-0-1, placed second in the state tourney in Irving with a 5-1 record and then finished the World Series with a 5-2 record.
Players were Gavin Wilson, Tyler Allen, Zayne Mendoza, Grayson Elder, Hunter Green, Doyle Lopez, Ethan Ottmo, Brenden Shew, Jakob Lay, Blake Howerton, Brennen Wynn and Parker Pogue.
Head coach was Mike Howerton. Assistant coaches were Nathan Wynn and Dario Lopez.
