Four Penn Hills natives will head south later this month to compete in U.S. Specialty Sports Association, or USSSA, All-American baseball games after being chosen to participate on two of its youth teams.

Tyler Casciato, Bryce Hunt, Devan Barnett and Jordan Edwards-Major will play in games scheduled for July 31 through Aug. 4 as members of the Northeast 11U and 12U teams.

Games will take place in Kissimmee, Fla., and the boys are excited to get started.

“I just love to compete and play hard,” said Casciato, 11. “Just going out there and playing with the best kids around, it will be a great experience.”

Bryce Hunt, 11, said he is looking forward to meeting new players and emulating his idol, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen.

“He’s fast, he can hit and he’s a great athlete,” Hunt said.

Jordan Edwards-Major, 11, who plays first base and pitches, will be looking to make an impact like his idol, Angels first baseman and slugger Albert Pujols.

“We wear the same number and play the same position,” Edwards-Major said.

On the pitcher’s mound, Edwards-Major said he has a tendency to get nervous in big situations, so his biggest challenge will be overcoming his nerves and throwing strikes.

“I’m looking forward to meeting and playing with some of the best kids my age in the country,” he said.

Teams in the 11U bracket will begin play on Aug. 1. Barnett, who will play in the 12U bracket, will begin games on Aug. 2. Championship games will take place Aug. 4.
